UB40 singer Duncan Campbell is recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke.

In a statement posted on Twitter on Tuesday, the British reggae band confirmed Duncan had fallen ill, but reassured fans he is “already up and about”.

“We can confirm that our lead singer and brother Duncan Campbell was taken to hospital after suffering a stroke,” the group’s statement reads.

“While we can report that he is already up and about, we ask fans to respect Duncan and the Family’s privacy as he works his way back to what we all hope will be a strong and speedy recovery. We look forward to seeing you all on the road next spring.”

Duncan joined his brother Robin in the group in 2008, replacing their other sibling, Ali, who has since toured with his own breakaway band, UB40 Featuring Ali, Astro & Mickey.

The singer’s stroke is the latest piece of bad news to hit the Red Red Wine musicians, as last year saxophonist Brian Travers was diagnosed with a brain tumour, forcing him to pull out of their 40th anniversary tour.
