Justin Hartley sent Chrishell Stause a text message to inform her that he was filing for divorce – just 45 minutes before the news was made public.
Hartley filed for divorce in November, listing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split from Stause, his wife of two years. The split is set to play out on the upcoming third season of Chrishell’s Netflix reality TV series Selling Sunset, with a clip showing the realtor in tears as she told co-star and friend Mary Fitzgerald: “I found out because he text me that we were filed.”
As Mary struggled to conceal her shock, placing her hand over her open mouth, Chrishell continued: “45 minutes later, the world knew.”
“That’s s—ty, really s—ty. You deserve more respect than that,” Mary told her pal.
“Because of the crazy way this went down, the world wants answers. I f—ing want answers,” Chrishell said to camera, before telling Mary that she spoke to Justin “right after” she learned of his filing, because she thought “it must be a joke”, but that was the end of their communication.
“What am I supposed to say? What do you say after that? It’s like now I have to find a place to live, I have to scramble and figure this out, you know?” Chrishell said.
Explaining how the situation went down, Chrishell added in an interview on camera: “I found out minutes before I was leaving for work so I immediately grabbed a few things and got out of there as fast as I could. I don’t think I really knew where I was going or what to do, but I just had to leave.”
Hartley and Stause wed in October 2017. He filed for divorce and cited irreconcilable differences in November, revealing the date of separation as July 8. Chrishell has disputed the separation date.
Selling Sunset is available to watch on Netflix now.
