The original stars of CSI are in talks to return to TV for a new spin-off series.

William Petersen and Jorja Fox are in negotiations to star in CSI: Vegas, which will serve as a sequel to CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Petersen will also executive produce.

The team behind the series are working to begin shooting this autumn when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and productions can begin filming under safety restrictions.

Reports about the series initially surfaced in February, and according to Deadline, the plot is being developed by Elementary writer Jason Tracey with bosses at CBS TV Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer TV. The small screen venture joins spin-offs CSI: Miami and CSI: New York.

Fox departed the original series during season eight, while Petersen left a year later. Fox would guest star on the show for several years before rejoining the cast for season 12.

The news comes as the 20th anniversary of the initial show, which was one of the biggest TV hits in the world at the height of its popularity, approaches this October.
